—Episode description

Plot

David is fast asleep with his morning wood on display[misleading] when Gwen bursts in and wakes him up. She tells him that she put out a Help Wanted ad in the news paper so they can get extra help for the camp, which David is skeptical about. Mere moments later, Daniel, who looks extremely similar to David, arrives and introduces himself, saying he wants to apply for the job. Gwen, noticing such similarities, instantly uses her vacation days and leaves the camp in the hands of David and Daniel. Unbeknownst to Gwen or David, the next page of the newspaper has an article about a Cult leader being implicated in the death of his entire cult followers. The page after has a large picture of Daniel with the words "WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN!!" printed next to it. Also the next page is an ad for Muffin Topz all you can eat shrimp and steak for five dollars, which doesn't pertain to the rest of the story, but it sounds suspiciously delicious.

David, after finishing a presentation on what is not and isn't a baseball due to them trying to play with grenades, introduces Daniel after being pointed out by Max. After Daniel tells David he has some positive exercises for the campers, David leaves to finish his paperwork. In minutes, Daniel establishes his irrational beliefs on negative emotions, space and the Big Bang, which is enough to convince Max, Nikki, and Neil to conclude that Daniel is a cultist. Especially when he mentions wanting them all to reach "ascension".

The children try to convince David that he is crazy, but by the time the trio and David arrive at the Mess Hall, all the campers are brainwashed, dressed in white, and Daniel has them preparing for "ascension party". Daniel then has Dolf take them to the purification sauna. Dolf explains they use high pressured steam and subliminal messages to "reconstruct them". The group also witness Ered, Space Kid, Harrison, and Nerris prepare a giant bowl of fruit punch laced with rat poison for the party. When Daniel suddenly appears, he throws Nikki and Neil into the sauna, brainwashing them both. David finally catches up with Max and congratulates Daniel on a job well done, still completely unaware as to what's happening. Max, seeing that David is too oblivious to see Daniel's insanity and murderous intentions, decides to instead get Daniel fired by pointing out how amazing he is by getting all the campers to behave in one day unlike Gwen and David. After Max adds that the two adults could lose their jobs, David is actually unsettled at the thought of being fired. David tries to comfort himself by saying not everyone loves Daniel, only for Max to intentionally get himself brainwashed and proclaim his love for Daniel. Completely shocked because David knows that Max doesn't love anyone, David decides to fire Daniel, only for the latter to refuse due to the fact that he has reached every requirement for the job, so David has no right to fire him. David then challenges Daniel to a Camp Song sing off. As they try one up each other through the art of song, Daniel, upon bragging about how he has infiltrated their camp and will sacrifice them all, gets too caught up and accidentally drinks the poisoned punch.

Daniel is promptly taken away by an ambulance, Gwen returns to camp, exclaiming to fire Daniel after finding her own choice for a new camp counselor, Jen. A blonde doppelganger of Gwen, who is equally as crazy as Daniel.

Trivia

  • Nikki and the Quartermaster both reference Jonestown throughout the episode. Jonestown was the location where a cult settled and, under the leadership of a leader, had numerous people ingest poisoned Kool-Aid and kill themselves, which Daniel attempted to do.
  • Daniel and Jen look exactly like David and Gwen, but have lighter color palettes
